What to look for when buying a Motorhome?

There are many ways to travel around a country. Depending on your family and how many people are part of the family, will depend on what size Motorhome you will need.

If there are five people in the family then you could travel with a fifth wheeler or a Motorhome. When you have more than five people in your family then you need to look at a bigger option. That is where what to look for when buying a Motorhome, your budget and the length of traveling will come into the decisions that you are going to need to make,

Here are five reasons why you would buy a motorhome

  1. You are looking at traveling around your country for a long period of time
  2. Safety. Your motorhome is all one part. If you need to drive away quickly, and you are in the bus then all you need to do is start up and move on.
  3. Space. There is more space in a Motorhome than in a caravan or camper trailer
  4. Home on wheels. If you like the comfort of your own house, without rough camping than you need a Motorhome
  5. Investment. If you purchase a motorhome that is a reasonable price, spend a little money fixing up the Motorhome and then later sell your motorhome - its a investment on wheels!

Space in the Motorhome

The number one reasons why you look at Space in the Motorhome would be because you need to have more storage space for the amount of people that are travelling with you! The more children that are about to embark on your travels with your Motorhome the more you need the storage.

Space In The Motorhome

There is never enough Space in the Motorhome when you are travelling with children. So its a matter of working out what to take with you, what you can store and what you can sell. If you can then you also need to work out if you there is a way to create more space in the motorhome.

Building More Cupboards

If there is room for a cupboard to be put into the Motorhome then it makes sense to add another cupboard. If you can add a wall to ceiling cupboard then even better - it will mean that you are able to store more valuable items.

Cupboard Space Is Vital

Its really important to have as much cupboard space as possible! Maybe you could take out the stove and build another cupboard? Or raise the lounge chairs so that there is cupboard space under the lounge? Even raise the bed so that more space is under the bed for the bigger heavier items?

Space Is Everywhere

When you start to look within your Motorhome, or when you are looking at buying a Motorhome you will be surprised with how much space can be found when you start looking....under beds, under bathroom sinks, in overhead cupboards, under the lounges, in between the door frame and the lounge frame....its endless how much Space in the Motorhome you are able to find!

Another reason that I personally want a motorhome is because of our dogs! It's much easier for camping, business trips, personal trips, and even just day trips to bring the dogs in a motor home. Long distance car rides can become horrendous, and hotel stays are full of telling the dogs to be quiet and running to the outside of the hotel to avoid disturbing people. When you want to take your dogs with you - get a motorhome for convenience.

@Attention Getter - I so love that idea....buying a Motorhome for dogs. We dont have any animals but our boys would love to travel with a dog. The dog from down the road has adopted us...actually when we do leave for our first big trip I will need to check under the beds to make sure the dog is not hidden!!

Thanks for your comment

    What Type Of Motorhome?

So you are looking at the space in the motorhome when you are looking into Buying A Motorhome! But what type of Motorhome would you need?

It depends on how many people are in your family? Are you a  family of 5 (2 adults and three kids) then you would a motorhome that is big enough for four bunkbeds.

If you were a family of four (2 adults and two kids) then you would need a Motorhome with one set of bunks and one double/queensize bed.

What about the layout of the Motorhome? There are many different layouts to choose from - kids beds one end and the adults beds at the other end. Or all the beds towards the back of the Motorhome?

What about the seats for when you are driving on the road? Would you prefer coach seats for everyone with seat belts or lounge seats that again has seat belts. What are the laws about traveling with children in your country? Do you have to have a Motorhome with fitted seat belts?

There is a lot to consider when you are setting out choosing what type of Motorhome you are looking for. It also depends on taste, styles, budget, requirements and the period of traveling you are about to do!
